“The most innovative pool robot I’ve tested in years.”

Justin D., The Pool Nerd — after testing 40+ robotic pool cleaners in a real test pool.

Pool Nerd Approved

The Pool Nerd on Clear UV.

For over five years, The Pool Nerd has tested nearly every robotic pool cleaner on the market — more than 40 robots through a real backyard pool. Justin spent weeks running Clear UV through cycle after cycle, and it earned his Pool Nerd Approved badge.

Watch The Pool Nerd's Best Robotic Pool Cleaners of 2026 — where Clear UV takes Best Newcomer.

The built-in UV-C lamp

“This is real, proven sanitation technology that I already trust on my own pool, now riding along on a cleaner.”

Justin D., The Pool Nerd

Justin already runs a whole-pool UV system on his own test pool, so he knows the technology firsthand. UV-C is the same germicidal light used in Olympic pools and commercial aquatic centers — and Clear UV is the first robot to carry it onboard.

Cleaning power

“The suction was among the strongest I’ve felt in a residential robot.”

Justin D., The Pool Nerd

Four motors pushing more than 8,500 gallons per hour. In his testing, the UltraBin came back filled to the brim on nearly every run — leaves, pollen, and fine silt included.

The 1-micron UltraFilters

“Fine-filtration media like this is the single biggest difference between water that looks ‘clean’ and water that looks truly clear.”

Justin D., The Pool Nerd

The UltraFilter panels are rated down to 1 micron — for perspective, a human hair is around 70 microns. That's the fine particulate most robots send right back into the water.

Walls and the waterline

“It climbed the walls confidently and held its grip along the tile line instead of sliding back down halfway like a lot of cheaper units do.”

Justin D., The Pool Nerd

The waterline is the dirtiest part of any pool — and the part most robots skip. Clear UV cleans floor, walls, and waterline every cycle, with a dedicated Waterline mode when the tile line needs extra attention.

The Clear app

“The app is polished, and more importantly, it works while the robot is in the water — which is exactly when you need it to.”

Justin D., The Pool Nerd

He called out the remote-control joystick as one of his favorite features — steer the robot straight to a pile of debris after a storm — along with the live water temperature readout on the home screen.

The weekly timer

“This is true set-it-and-forget-it automation.”

Justin D., The Pool Nerd

Leave the robot in the pool, set a recurring schedule in the app, and it cleans on its own — UV lamp included, if you pair it with Automatic UV. The only regular maintenance he noted: rinsing the filter.

Best Newcomer of 2026.

In his Best Robotic Pool Cleaners of 2026 guide, Justin ranked Clear UV the Best Newcomer of the year — calling it “the most innovative robot I’ve tested in years, by a longshot” and “one of the most powerful cleaners I’ve ever put in a pool.” The only thing keeping it from the #1 spot: he wants more months in the water before crowning it. We'll take that.
