Troubleshooting
Something not right?
Let's fix it fast.
Simple fixes for the most common issues — won't start, weak suction, poor climbing, tangles, the app, and the UV lamp. Every step here comes straight from the owner's manual, and most take just a couple of minutes at the pool.
Start here
The quick check
Most problems come down to one of these five things. Run through them in order first. The manual says these fixes work for 9 out of 10 owners, usually in a few minutes.
- Get the air out. Hold the robot underwater and tilt it side to side until no more bubbles come out and it sinks. If air is trapped inside, it won't start.
- Check the outlet. Plug in a lamp or phone charger. No power? Reset the GFCI or try another outlet.
- Check the cable. The floating cable goes into the right port on the control box and the nut should be hand-tight. Both ends should be firmly connected.
- Rinse the filter basket. Open the top cover, lift out the basket, and rinse it with a hose. A clogged filter is the most common cause of poor cleaning.
- Lay the cable out flat. Uncoil the whole cable so it lies loosely on the water and the robot can reach the whole pool.
01 — No response
The robot won't start
Almost always power or trapped air — not a broken motor.
Nothing happens when I press Start
Go through these in order and stop as soon as it starts:
- Make sure the wall outlet has power (test it with a lamp or phone charger).
- Push the power cord firmly into the outlet.
- Check that both ends of the cable are connected tightly.
- Put the robot fully underwater and let all the air escape.
- Look at the tracks (the belts it drives on). Remove any debris, and if a track has slipped off, put it back on the drive wheels.
If a screen error code shows, note it and see the error code list — some faults need service.
The control box looks dark or dead
It may just be asleep. If the control box sits unused for 3 minutes, the lights dim and only the on/off button stays lit.
- Press any button to wake it. The first press only wakes the lights — it won't start cleaning.
- When it's plugged in and awake, the Start button glows yellow (standby). That means it's ready.
- If it's still completely dark, check the outlet and reset the GFCI, and plug straight into the wall (no extension cords).
It powers on but floats or won't sink
That's trapped air. The robot won't start if air is holding it up.
- Hold it by the handle and lower it straight down into the water.
- Tilt it side to side until the bubbles stop.
- Let it sink to the floor, then press Start.
02 — Power
The outlet keeps tripping
In most cases this is the outlet, the circuit, or moisture — not the robot.
How do I find out what's tripping it?
Test one thing at a time, the way the manual describes:
- Test the outlet. Plug in a lamp or phone charger. If that won't power on, the outlet needs attention.
- Test the control box alone. Unplug the robot cable and plug in just the control box. Lights on? Good — go to the next step.
- Reconnect and submerge. Reattach the cable, put the robot fully underwater, then power on.
If the outlet trips again after all this, reach out to us and we'll sort it out together.
A few things worth knowing about outlets
- Outdoor outlets collect moisture, especially after rain. Let them dry out.
- Outdoor GFCI outlets wear out — heat, humidity, and sun can mean they only last 5–7 years.
- If big appliances share the same circuit, try a different outlet.
- Plug the control box straight into the wall. Extension cords can cause problems.
- Always use a GFCI-protected outlet, and test the GFCI before each use.
Where should the control box sit?
The control box is water-resistant but not waterproof, so keep it dry:
- At least 10 ft (3 m) from the edge of the pool.
- At least 4 in (10 cm) off the ground.
- In a shaded spot — direct sun can overheat it and shut it down.
- Roughly centered along the long side of the pool so the robot can reach everywhere.
03 — Movement
Movement & getting stuck
Some of what looks wrong is just how it drives.
It moves in a random way or goes over the same spot
This is normal. The robot may pause, back up, repeat sections, or change direction. It may even climb a wall, slide back, and try again. That's how its navigation works, and most owners notice it gets more efficient after a few cycles.
It only cleans part of the pool
Check these:
- Move the control box so the robot can reach every area.
- Unplug the control box and straighten the cable so it's fully extended.
- Clean the filter basket (a clog can cut a cycle short).
- Take toys, ladders, and hoses out of the pool.
- Very large pools: the cable reaches pools up to about 50 ft long.
It gets stuck on the main drain
This can happen on some pools. Contact us and we'll get you a drain attachment that fixes it.
It flips over or struggles to move
- Empty and rinse the filter basket — a full load makes it heavy and unstable.
- Check the tracks and remove any stuck debris.
- Restart it on the pool floor, fully underwater.
04 — Cleaning power
It moves but doesn't pick much up
Start with the filter — it's the usual cause.
Suction feels weaker than it used to
Two things to check:
- Clean the filter basket. Even if it doesn't look full, fine dust, silt, and pollen can clog it and cut suction. Rinse it with a hose.
- Check the impellers. These are the pumps that pull water in. Look for a leaf, hairpin, or pebble and clear it out.
It leaves fine dust or silt behind
- Rinse or replace the UltraFilter panels — loaded panels stop catching fine debris. Replace them every 3–6 months.
- Let stirred-up silt settle, then run it again. A second pass picks up what the first loosened.
05 — Walls
It won't climb the walls
Climbing needs strong suction and clean walls. Check both.
It stays on the floor and won't go up
Check these in order:
- Clean the filter basket. Weak suction is the top reason it can't hold a wall. Replace the panels if needed.
- Clear the impellers of any debris.
- Balance the water. Keep the temperature and pH in the right range (see the specs). Out-of-range water affects grip.
- Brush off algae. Test and balance your pool chemistry, then brush the walls. Algae makes them slippery.
06 — Cable
Cable tangles & handling
A couple of habits prevent almost every cable problem.
The cable keeps tangling
- Uncoil the whole cable before each run and let it lie loosely on the water.
- Take obstacles out of the pool.
- If it's twisted, unplug the control box, straighten the cable, and lay it flat in the sun for about 8 hours to relax it.
- Store it in loose loops — tight coils create permanent twists.
Can I pull the robot out by the cable?
No. Always lift it by the handle. Pulling hard on the cable can damage the internal wires, and that isn't covered by the warranty. You can gently use the cable to guide the robot to the pool wall — just don't lift it out with the cable.
What's the easiest way to take it out?
Use Pick-Up Mode:
- Tap any button to wake the robot, then press the Pick-Up button (on the control box or in the app).
- It drives to the nearest wall and climbs to the waterline.
- Lift it out by the handle. Hold it above the water for 10–20 seconds first to let the water drain and make it lighter.
07 — Maintenance
Filter & basket
A quick rinse keeps everything working.
How do I clean the filter?
- Unplug the control box.
- Open the top cover.
- Lift out the filter basket.
- Rinse the basket and the filter panels with a garden hose until clean.
- Put it back and close the cover.
Do this whenever the basket is full or suction drops.
How often do I replace the filter panels?
Replace the UltraFilter panels every 3–6 months, depending on how dirty your pool gets. Your robot comes with a spare set, and you can get more on the store.
How do the filter panels come out and go back in?
Press gently on the basket frame and slide the panels out in this order:
Take out: Middle → Front → Back → Left → Right.
Put in (reverse): Right → Left → Back → Front → Middle.
Handle the panels with care — they catch very fine debris.
08 — App
App & pairing
You don't need the app to clean — but here's how to fix it.
The robot won't connect to the app
- Turn on both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on your phone.
- Open the app, pick your model, and stay close to the control box.
- Tap "To Connect" and let your phone find the robot.
- If it's already linked to another phone, remove it under "Manage Bound Devices" first, then pair again.
Can't unbind it? Contact us and we'll release it for you.
Do I even need the app?
No. You can run a full cleaning cycle from the control box. The app just adds extras like the weekly timer, remote steering, and custom modes. If the app is giving you trouble, keep cleaning from the control box while you sort it out.
The remote-control joystick won't work
Remote control needs an account. Create one and log in, then tap "Remote Control" on the app home screen and use the joystick to steer.
Where do I get the app?
Search "Clear UV" in the App Store or Google Play, or visit the connect guide for step-by-step pairing.
09 — Clear UV
The UV lamp (Clear UV only)
Everything about the built-in UV-C sanitizing lamp.
The UV lamp won't turn on
- Make sure the robot is underwater and running — UV is blocked above water for safety.
- The first time you use UV, the app asks you to read and accept a one-time safety notice. Complete that.
- Tap the UV icon in the top-right of the app and confirm the warning to turn it on.
- If the UV control is greyed out, reconnect the app.
When does the UV lamp turn off?
By itself, whenever:
- The cleaning cycle ends
- The robot stops
- It senses an unsafe condition (the app shows "UV turned off for safety")
You can also turn it off any time by tapping the UV icon. This is normal — not a fault.
What's the difference between Manual and Automatic UV?
- Manual UV runs the lamp once, during the current cleaning cycle. Tap "Run UV Now."
- Automatic UV runs the lamp during your scheduled daily cleanings. Turn it on once in UV settings.
When UV is on, the app shows a banner: "UV ON — KEEP POOL CLEAR."
Can the UV lamp be replaced?
Yes. When the lamp reaches the end of its life it can be swapped for a new one, so your Clear UV keeps working at full strength. There are no other user-serviceable parts inside — don't open the robot or control box for anything else.
10 — Water
Water & debris
Sometimes it's the pool, not the robot.
Is my water clear enough to run it?
Here's the simple test: if you can't clearly see the main drain at the bottom of the pool, clean the water up first. A quick shock, brush, and skim helps the robot work better and keeps the filters from overloading.
Can I run it right after adding chemicals?
No. Don't run it right after adding liquid flocculants or clarifiers — they can clog or permanently damage the filters. Wait until the water is clear again before you start.
My pool has a vinyl liner
Vinyl liner pools work great as long as the liner is snug. If yours has wrinkles or loose spots, fix those first — it protects both the liner and the robot.
11 — Modes
Cleaning modes & run times
If a cycle ends sooner than you expected, it may just be the mode.
How long should a cleaning cycle take?
It depends on the mode. Press the mode button on the control box to switch:
- Regular (Standard) 2 hours — floor, walls, and waterline.
- Ultra (Enhanced) 3 hours — floor, walls, and waterline.
- Fast (Quick) 1 hour — floor, walls, and waterline.
- Floor 2 hours — pool floor only.
- Waterline 2 hours — walls and waterline only.
- Custom — set up in the app.
The control box shows a countdown of the time left while it runs.
What water conditions does it need?
For the robot to work well and last, keep your water in this range:
- Water depth 2.5–16.4 ft (0.8–5 m)
- pH 7.0–7.8
- Free chlorine 4 ppm or less
- Salt 5,000 ppm or less
- Water temperature 50–95°F
Running outside these ranges can cause poor climbing or damage.
12 — Lights
What the lights mean
The color tells you what's going on. Here's the full list from the manual.
The Start button light on the control box

- Cyan, spinning The filter may be clogged — rinse the basket.
- Red, flashing Error detected — check the error codes.
13 — Error codes
Error codes on the screen
If a code shows up, here's what it means. For "jam" codes, lift the robot out and clear the tracks and impellers first, then restart.

14 — Off-season
Storing it away
A little care between seasons prevents next-year problems.
How should I store it for a while?
- Clean and dry the filter basket and the robot.
- Coil the cable loosely — don't wrap it tight.
- Store it in a dry, shaded place between 40 and 100°F (not freezing, out of direct sun).
Habits that prevent problems
Do these four and you'll rarely need this page.
-
01
Get all the air out before you start.
-
02
Rinse the filter often — even when it looks clean.
-
03
Lay the cable out flat, and always lift by the handle.
-
04
Plug straight into a GFCI outlet — no extension cords.
15 — Last step
Still stuck? A little info saves a lot of time.
If you've tried the steps above and it's still not right, we're glad to help. Having this ready gets you a real answer on the first reply.
- Your model and serial number (Clear UV or Clear S; the serial is on the label).
- What happens, exactly — and when it happens during the cycle.
- What you've already tried from this page.
- Any error code on the screen, or the light color and behavior.
- A short photo or video if you can grab one.
